Question: What is the difference between Aux and phono?

If your amplifier has a phono plug this happens automatically. If it doesnt then you need a phono pre-amp between the turntable and the amplifier to bring the signal up to sufficient strength to be heard properly. Plug a turntable into an aux input and you may not hear anything even with the volume maxed.

Is there a difference between aux and phono?

A turntable produces a PHONO output signal. This phono signal needs to be converted to a LINE LEVEL signal (sometimes referred to as AUX signal) to work with audio equipment including stereo systems, computers, and speakers. A phono preamp converts PHONO to LINE LEVEL.

Does phono or line sound better?

For most mainstream cartridges (and turntables) the PHONO signal level will be around 5 mV. So a LINE signal is from 50 to 1500 times stronger than a PHONO signal.

What does a phono preamplifier do?

A phono preamplifier, also known as a phono stage, is an audio component that amplifies the signal from your turntable to a level that allows you to connect it to your sound system the same way you would with any other audio source.

Should I use phono or line on my turntable?

Answer: Setting up your Audio-Technica turntable properly will ensure that you get the most out of your listening experience. The PHONO/LINE switch turns the turntables internal RIAA preamp off/on, thus providing the correct equalization for your turntables current setup.
