Question: Do you need a sinker with a lure?

There are several reasons why you might need to add weight to your lure or get your hands on a fishing sinker: Weights enhance your lures anchoring ability. You can cast your line to greater distances with sinkers. It reinforces the sinking rate and ability of your lure and line.

Does lure weight include sinker?

That is correct. The recommended lure weight, as printed on most rods, typically refers to what weights it can cast best. If you are using the rod for bottom fishing you can use much heavier sinkers. For example, my Loomis Musky rod is rated for lures up to 2 oz.

Does rod lure weight matter?

If you have too light of a lure, the rod will not load properly and result in a shorter cast. If youve got too heavy of a weight, the rod will load too much and have a sluggish cast. If you have the right weighted lure on, the rod will load properly and achieve optimal casting distance.

What is lure weight on fishing rod?

The bigger the fish and/or the bigger or heavier the lure, the heavier the Fishing Rod you need. So a heavy action rod would probably have a lure weight range from 1oz and up, while an Ultra-Light may have a lure range from 1/32 oz and up to approximately 1/8oz.

What size fish can you catch on 8lb line?

That will help you target fish in the lower weight range. Catfish, bass, panfish, walleye can all be caught on 8lb line.

Can fishing line be too heavy?

Yes, fishing line can be too heavy. Adding a bigger line than is recommended on the reel will reduce the line capacity on the spool. Additionally, line that is too heavy for the rod will make it difficult to cast small lures or baits. Line size should be within the range listed on the rod and reel.
