A pair of identical twins from Australia have become engaged to the same man on a US reality TV show. Anna and Lucy DeCinque, 35, will be marrying 37-year-old electrician Ben Byrnes, who they have both been dating since 2011.
Why do Lucy and Maria look so different even though they are twins?
Non-identical twins come from separate eggs, so inherit different genes. The girls half-Jamaican mother carries genes for both white and black skin. By chance, Lucy will have inherited genes for white skin and Maria will have genes that code for black skin.
Can twin sisters look different?
Its definitely not uncommon for fraternal twins to look different but the science behind Marcia and Millies differences is pretty unique. Because non-identical -- or fraternal -- twins occur when a woman releases two eggs at the same time, those eggs are fertilized by two different sperm cells.
Can twins look different?
Yes! Identical twins came from the same sperm and egg, so they have the same chromosomes and genes. So identical twins with identical DNA may have different genes turned on, causing them to look and act differently, and even to develop different diseases such as cancer.
Are Olsen twins identical or fraternal?
While many people cant tell them apart, Mary-Kate and Ashley are not identical, but rather fraternal: Mary-Kate is one inch taller than her sister and is left-handed, while Ashley is right-handed. (Ashley is two minutes older too, FYI.)
What if 2 twins Marry 2 twins?
It might sound crazy to some people (maybe even taboo to others), but a pair of identical twins marrying identical twins is called a quaternary marriage. Although rare, they do happen. Unsurprisingly, these couples may even go on to have identical twins of their own.
